It is also in my top 3. When I was able LEGO 75155 Rebel-U-wing Fighter, I had just completed my Rogue One set collection. Because of its unique appearance and originality, the U-wing is one the most impressive ship designs from the Disney Era. Visually, the ship looks a lot like the X-wings or Y-wings in the original trilogy. It is also a mix of both. The craft’s main body is similar to a Ywing, and it has 4 large engine pods. The set captures the look of onscreen craft very well. The minifigure selection is also fantastic.

The U-wing, a troop transport, can be seen in universe deploying rebel troops across the galaxy. We most often see it in “Rogue One”, “Star Wars Rebels”, and a few other comics, video games, novels and comics. It also serves as a support role by providing oversight for ground forces. The troop bay can be opened and one of its crew members can act as a door gunner, covering fire for troops below. This is evident in “Rogue One”, where a Uwing defeats an AT-ACT Walker. Incom corporation produced the ship. It features two wing-like Sfoils that can be placed forward or backward depending on the situation. The S-foils can be angled backwards in combat situations to increase the surface area of the ship’s shields and radiate excess heat from its core. This flight configuration was reserved for interstellar operations as it is difficult to operate in variable weather conditions, such as atmospheric combat. For offensive capabilities, U-wings could also be equipped with two fixed-position KX7 laser guns on their nose sections.

As usual, I’ll start with some information about it and then proceed to the review.

Name: Rebel-U-wing Fighter

Set Number 75155

Year: 2016,

RRP: PS74.99

Pieces: 659

Star Wars Theme: Star Wars

Minifigures: 5

LEGO 75155 Minifigures

I will start with the miniature figures, then move on to the actual build.

First, Jyn Erso. This figure is fantastic. The torso print matches the shirt/jacket combination she wears throughout most of the film. The print is richly detailed with stitching, pocket detailing and creases. A soft cloth poncho is included with the figure. She wears it during scenes on Eadu about halfway through the movie. This costume is evidently the inspiration for her hat/hairpiece. The mould is excellent and includes the goggles that are usually worn by Hoth rebels attached to it. The cap also has a microphone at the side, which is visible in the film. The jacket and gloved hands are dark tan in colour.

It does a good job replicating Felicity Jones’ appearance. You can see that it is JynErso by just looking at the figure. The legs are black and could have been printed with the belt/holster that she wears throughout the film. A reddish brown bag is also hers, which she reused from Indiana Jones. It’s nice to see it again. This figure is very well made, and makes a great addition to any collection. It is also unique to this set. 8/10

Next we have Cassian andor. This figure is based upon the costume he wears when attempting to find Saw Gerrera. This figure captures the look and details of his large coat. The fur is printed on the collar and sides of the torso, along with pockets and other pouch details. With the fabric folds and pouch prints, the print extends to the legs. The print only covers the front of the legs. It doesn’t wrap around the entire top of the legs.

Face prints that resemble Diego Luna well include smirking expressions and passive expressions. Although the dark brown hair looks very generic, it is the right style and works well. Overall, this figure is quite nice. The leg printing could have been better, but it’s still a solid figure for a first costume. 8/10

Next is Bistan. This character appears briefly in the film, as a door gunner on a u-wing at battle of Scarif. He also destroys an AT-ACT. The jumpsuit is modeled by this figure and extends to his legs. It works well with the dark green and olive green, and the details on his straps are excellent. Bistan’s head features a 360O print and is made from a brand new mould. His face is exactly the same as the one onscreen. He has good hair, with some bald spots just like the “real” character. The neck ring is also good and features dark pearl grey prints.

Bistan, despite only being briefly seen, is a fan favorite and the figure does justice to the character. This figure is a great addition to any rebel alliance army. It adds variety and appeal. This figure is exclusive to the set, which adds to its appeal. 9/10

The Rebel alliance trooper is next. He is based on Eskro Casrich, a background character that we briefly see on Scarif. This figure, although a little known like Bistan is still quite impressive. He has an olive-green body with grey pouches, and a brown section in the combat jacket. There are pouches at the tops of the dark tan legs and stripes on the knees. These legs are very similar to those found on Rebels in the Rogue One set.

Although the face is generic and has been seen many times before, it fits the character well. The helmet mould he is wearing was reused by the Cloud Car pilots in 75222 Betrayal of Cloud City set, but it was in white. This set is in dark tan with dark green printing at the top. The helmet has grey print on the ears and a small logo in yellow on the side. The figure is very sleek because the colours are all coordinated and the color scheme is consistent. This figure looks great with the rebels of the Rogue One wave. This trooper, much like Bistan is a great addition in the ranks of rebel troopers. It also adds some variety to the main rebel troopers that we get. 8/10

The Blue Squadron Pilot is the last figure. This figure was included in both the U-wing as well as the 75172 Ywing. He is not exclusive, but he is still an excellent pilot figure. The regular pilot head LEGO used has been on his head for some time, but it’s fine here. The helmet’s front section has a chequered pattern that is similar to the one Biggs Darklighter wears in “A New Hope”, but in black-and-white.

Although the torso and legs were reused for other sets in this wave, they are a refreshing change from the orange jumpsuits worn by regular pilots. Although the control box is still visible on the chest, the print’s dark blue jumpsuit makes it appear more sleek than usual. Perhaps it’s because it has a darker colour, which makes it seem more real. It’s a fantastic figure, but it would have been nice to have a unique helmet print. 7/10

LEGO 75155 Build

It doesn’t have any side builds. The U-wing is the only model in the set. This ship is a fantastic recreation of the one seen on the screen. While the U-wing recreates the spirit of the vehicles in the original trilogy, it also brings something new to the table. This LEGO model captures the feeling perfectly. It is play-scale so it is a little smaller than the minifigure size, but it is still quite large and contains all the necessary details.

It was fun to build, and the final result is fantastic. The colour scheme matches the Rogue One craft in the film. The ship’s overall appearance is enhanced by the yellow and blue highlights. They also tie in the stickers to its main brick-built sections.

The ship is constructed in two parts, and then assembled at the end. The upper part of the craft is where you start, and then the main hull as well as the S-foils are built. The troop bay and interior of the cockpit are then built. Next, the two halves are connected using pins and technic beams. The ship is now quite strong and can be moved around without fear. The sub-section makes use of the 10240 UCSX-wing window canopy to create the troop bay window that we see on our in-universe ship.

The wings are built the same way, with some exceptions to the sticker application and plate detailing at the top sections. They are mirrored in most cases. They look great, but perhaps less visible studs would enhance the sleekness. The smooth and aerodynamic middle section is free of visible studs. The central cockpit uses the common Xwing canopy to cover the play-scale X-wings that we have used in recent years.

Although the troop bay is adequate, it could use a little more space. There is not enough room to accommodate all of Rogue One’s members comfortably. It is possible to make the interior larger with modifications. However, it doesn’t necessarily require these mods to accommodate the figures without overcrowding them. The door gunners are a nice touch. However, they use stud shooters that I don’t like. You can remove them completely or replace them with more realistic-looking blasters, which is what I did. They are easy to open and have great details, even though they were obtained via stickers.

The troop bay has a large grill area at the back that leads to the top section. This is likely to be the radiator section for the engine radiators. Just behind the main cockpit, there is a nice textured area with a hint of the hyperdrive. The area contains a hand-held claw weapon accessory that can be used in many themes. This tiny greeble actually works well and looks almost identical to the original in-universe design.

You will finish building the four big X-wing-shaped thrusters. Two of these are built at a time, and then they are mirrored on the ship’s back. These use the old icepick accessory to replicate the T-shaped intakes on the X-Wing. This is a clever use of parts. Similar techniques were used for the 10240 UCS and 75218 Playscale X-wings. To recreate the blue markings on the ship’s onscreen screen, the thrusters’ front turbine pieces have two stickers at the top and bottom. They could be a bit longer, and perhaps another of the white turbine pieces on each pod would have improved it. But it’s not too big of an issue.

Before I give my final verdict, I will briefly discuss a few of the play features that this set offers. First, you can open the wings to attack mode. This is a great feature that completely transforms the ship’s shape. This is a great play feature that can also be used as a display option for collectors. Although it takes up more space, it looks great.

Next is the pair spring-loaded shooters at the front. They are easily integrated by pressing down on the buttons at the nose. You can either remove them or leave them out if you don’t love them. The troop bay has door gunners, which I mentioned earlier. If positioned properly, there are two stud shooters that can be placed to shoot out the doors. This play feature is a good match for what we see in the movie, but I don’t like stud guns in general so I replaced them by better-looking blaster cannons.

Although the final feature isn’t really playable, it is worth noting. It is difficult to open the cockpit, so LEGO added a small feature behind each canopy. You can open the canopy by sliding some 1×1 studs inverted forward. These are part of a system that pushes some technic parts forward. This clever LEGO move was smart because the mechanism is hidden. It also allows for the cockpit to be as precise as possible, without the need to be modified to make it more openable.

Last Thoughts

This set is highly recommended to all Star Wars fans. It looks great on display, and the selection of minifigures is excellent. The set includes 2 of the main cast, as well as some very memorable and unique characters. 4 exclusive figures are also included. It was fun to build, and the play features add to the displayability of the set. Although the engines could be a bit larger, it is a fantastic set. 9/10

Rogue One is a favorite film in the Star Wars Saga.
